Take a hike on the historic Walami Trail! What a day!
Throughout this incredible day, we’ll hike, we’ll traverse towering suspension bridges, we’ll check out some amazing waterfalls, and we’ll see many of the wonderful forests and waters that make this part of Taiwan so special.
Part of the larger Batongguan cross island trail, the historic Walami Trail is a must-see when visiting Taiwan’s green East Coast. So come join us for a wonderful day out as we take a walk and explore this unique region together. Oh, and keep an eye out for monkeys!

Walami tour. We had a great day doing the Walami Tour. We came for the Taroko but that was closed because of the Marathon. The Island Life Taiwan Team offered an alternative and so we went with Tiffany for a nice tour uphill including special breakfast and above all an nice bath under a beautiful waterfall. We had great fun and enjoyed the whole of the tour.
Fantastic day with Island Life Taiwan! The drive to Walami from Hualien City was long-ish but beautiful countryside. Really gives you a glimpse of rural Taiwan. Our guide Allen was a really cool dude so time went by fairly fast. Once on the trail, it’s so beautiful we were blown away. We saw monkeys, swam under a waterfall and had an all around amazing day! We highly recommend Allen and the whole Island Life Team!
Awesome day out on the trail! Loved our visit with Island Life Taiwan out to the Walami Trail. One of our more memorable experiences in Taiwan. Thanks again!
Awesome Tour. My Dad, my wife and I did the Walami hike with Jace, and had a great time. It’s a beautiful hike up into the mountains, with spectacular views down into the valley. We would really recommend this to anyone who enjoys the great outdoors.
A bit of a drive from Hualien but well worth it! One of the more beautiful trails we visited in Hualien and there was practically no one on it. The Island life team provide the best customer service in Hualien and we were picked up at our hotel right on time. Our guide was great and the walk is rather spectacular with some really dramatic moments. I don’t want to spoil it for you so just go do it!
This was easily one of our favorite places in Taiwan. I dont know why, maybe because it is a little far away, but when we went to Walami trail we didn’t see another people almost the whole day. It makes no sense for such a beautiful place! Our guide Ana was very fun and took us to several cool waterfalls while we were there. Even though the drive to Walami is a little long, it is a beautiful drive past villages and rice paddys so we really enjoyed it. I highly, highly, highly recommend Walami Trail and Island Life.
We read about the Walami Trail in the Lonely Planet guidebook and were a little disappointed when we arrived in Taiwan that it was kind of in the middle of nowhere. Thankfully we found Island Life Taiwan and their guide Bruce! I totally get why these guys have so many good reviews. First off they picked us up right at our hotel and then let us stop at 7-11 to get coffee and snacks for the hike. When we got to the trail, we stopped at one cool waterfall and played in the rocks, before heading out onto the trail. About an hour in Bruce took us down a side path to this incredible viewing area below a towering waterfall with a picnic table and we ate our lunch right by the river! After the hike, when we got back to Hualien, Bruce even stopped to help us get our train tickets! Talk about service! I can’t recommend the Island Life team enough and absolutely plan on using them for more adventures next time we’re in Taiwan.
I’m writing a review here but we actually did three tours with Island Life. Walami Trail, Mugua River Gorge and the Better Taroko Gorge tour. Honestly, I cant say enough great things about the whole experience. For Taroko we had Iris, a fun loving Taiwanese woman who really knows how to keep you active and make you feel welcome in her country. We were a family of 4 but there were also a couple of young hip backpackers on our tour, but Iris did a great job making sure everyone had a perfect day. Mugua River Gorge was totally the highlight of our children’s time in Taiwan. Hiking through the jungle to some incredible swimming holes where you can jump off of rocks is probably every kids dream. Island Life and our guide that day Agathe really made their dreams come true. And last but not least, Walami Trail. After a day in the very popular Taroko Gorge, and then a day hiking in the wilderness, taking a long walk through the silent woods of Walami was the perfect end to our time in Hualien. There are really very few people out on the Walami trail so we saw monkeys in spades. Climbing up into the mountains, the views were just breathtaking. Our guide for Walami Trail, Anna, was a complete doll and did a great job occupying our kids at times to give my husband and I a breather to just stroll through the woods in silence. Overall, this was a truly wonderful and memorable trip, and the Island Life team were a huge part of that. Thanks Island Life.
